The Tragic and Brutal Death of Mahsa Amini

The Middle East Studies Center at The Ohio State University condemns the tragic and brutal death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman who died in the custody of the Iranian Morality Police after being detained for purportedly wearing a hijab too loosely. We mourn with her loved ones and with the Iranian people. The Iranian government needs to end its systemic persecution of women and allow peaceful protest, including by university students and faculty at Sharif University in Tehran. We support human rights in Iran and the efforts to hold those who violate them to account.

As a resource to the public, the Middle East Studies Center will support opportunities for learning and dialogue to help people process and understand the current protests, as well as their context and historical background. We will be sharing relevant academic resources and events.  Please follow @MESC_OSU and Facebook.com/mesc.osu for updates.
