Learning Opportunities

The Middle East Studies Center offers the following programs.  They are offered based on the level of interest and financial resources available. Check the home page for upcoming events.  Here are some which occur regularly:

  • Current Developments in the Middle East, Lectures and Symposia - over the past year and a half these have focused on the Arab awakening.
  • Ottoman History and Central Asian History lecture series and conference panels.
  • A week long institute on the peoples and cultures of the Middle East, "The Middle East in World Affairs"
  • Arab World Workshop, a day-long workshop on the history and cultures of Arab peoples.
  • Turkic World Workshop, a day-long workshop on the history and cultures of Turkic peoples.
  • Workshops on special topics, such as Middle Eastern American Identities, and Islamophobia

All of these may be eligible to fulfill some of the requirements for teacher licensure, and our certificate programs.  Many of the above are recorded and can be accessed online.
