Serhun Al will present with Yiğit Akın serving as discussant. In-person + streamed live on our Facebook and Twitter.

As Turkey was bracing for the crucial upcoming elections this summer, the catastrophic February 6th earthquakes in southern Turkey led to more than 50,000 deaths and left millions homeless. Corruption in construction regulations, late and inefficient response, and lack of coordination by the Erdogan government exacerbated the consequences of this natural disaster. Political fault lines are deeper than ever under the dire humanitarian emergency. This panel by Yigit Akin and Serhun Al will discuss the social and political consequences of the earthquakes, which might be a tipping point for the twenty-year rule of Erdogan and his governing coalition.
