MESC Is Looking for Student Leaders!

MESC Is Looking for Student Leaders!

Internship Program

Are you ready to grow as a leader, sharpen your skills, and gain valuable career experience while exploring one of the world’s most diverse regions? The Middle East Studies Center (MESC) is seeking student leaders to join our team!

Whether you are looking for paid positions, academic internships, or meaningful volunteer roles, the MESC offers various ways to get involved. Roles are defined according to tiers:

  • Tier One: An entry-level role as a member of the engagement team. In this role we assess your accountability, communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively while also completing independent work. Someone in this role can be a volunteer, a work study paid assistant, or an academic intern who earns credit for their work through the Undergraduate International Studies Program.

  • Tier Two: The Lead Intern (a paid position). The lead intern fulfills all the expectations of the other engagement team members as well as: teaching other team members media skills, checking on assignment progress, and reminding team members of duties. They may take on a higher level of responsibility for their independent projects.

  • Tier Three: A team member who also serves as a MESC advisory board member. The position is open to students who have served as the lead intern and possibly also serves as an officer for another student organization. This individual votes as a board member and participates in projects with faculty and staff, preferably also serving in the role of officer for a student organization.

With the MESC, you will have the opportunity to progress to leadership roles such as Lead Intern or Advisory Board Member. As a member of our team, you will gain hands-on experience with:

  • Conducting research and data analysis
  • Creating accessible content on current events in the Middle East
  • Producing newsletters, web content, and event materials
  • Supporting guest speaker events and planning logistics

By joining the team, you will have the ability to build connections, enhance your leadership skills, further your career goals, and learn more about the Middle East.

Team members will commit to roughly 3-10 hours per week, including weekly team meetings.

Volunteer Opportunities

Not ready to commit to an internship? Become a volunteer! Support MESC’s events through roles in:

  • Social media outreach
  • Event registration and logistics
  • Webinar tech support and video/audio editing

Volunteers are welcome to attend weekly team meetings and can later transition into internship roles if desired.
