We start off our new Middle East Film Series with سكر بنات Caramel, a 2008 award winning romantic comedy by Director Nadine Labaki about the daily lives of five Lebanese women in Beirut. The film was Lebanon’s 2007 Cannes Film Festival nominee and Lebanon’s official submission for the 2008 Academy Awards Foreign Language category. There will be a short introduction by Marie-Therese Labaki of NELC, and then the film will be shown in Arabic with English subtitles. Refreshments will be served at 6:00 pm, and the film will begin at 6:30 pm.
This series is presented by the Middle East Studies section of the OSU Library, and the NELC department, with coffee and tea supplied by the Middle East Studies Center. Please visit the Middle East Studies Library's website for our other Arabic, Persian, and Turkish films to be shown this year.
