Ohio State now offers an Intercultural Competence for Global Citizenship certificate to students engaging in cultural learning and exploration. Available as of autumn 2022, this certificate will be presented to students invested in global education, both in and out of the classroom. In order to develop a theoretical understanding of social diversity, Ohio State requires a select list of courses. These aim to boost self-awareness, tolerance, and empathy across identities. For the application of this academic knowledge, the University also calls for an experiential component, either in the form of study abroad or immersive language study. These classes, largely offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, may overlap partially with GE requirements.
