She worked the news agency’s Moscow bureau for five years, first as an energy reporter and later as political correspondent. In that role, she led coverage of a resurgent Islamist insurgency in Russia’s North Caucasus, making regular trips to the region and overseeing a diverse group of stringers. Since December 2011, as senior correspondent for Reuters in Afghanistan, she has focused on the struggles women face eleven years into the NATO-led war.
