We continue our Middle East Film series with Under the Bombs, directed by Philippe Aractingi, shown in Arabic language with English subtitles. The film was selected at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and shown at the 2008 Venice Film Festival, where it was awarded the Eiuc Human Rights Film Award.

Film description: During a cease-fire in the Lebanon-Israel conflict of 2006, Tony, a Christian taxi-driver, brings Zeina, a Shiite woman from Beirut, to the heart of the conflict in the country's south. While they scour the rubble of local towns for Zeina's son, they discover that despite their very different backgrounds they have much in common. During their trip through the desolate countryside, the two travelers develop a deep bond as a response to the death surrounding them.

This series is presented by the Middle East Studies section of the OSU Library, and the NELC department, with refreshments generously supplied by the Middle East Studies Center. Please visit the Middle East Studies Library's website for information on more Arabic, Persian, and Turkish films to be shown this year.
