Working Groups and Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Local Worlds

Local Worlds has been exploring the intersection of space, culture, and power since its beginning in Autumn of 2007. The primary research question is "What is a local domain of practice, and how are they situated in wider structures of meaning and power?" The group is not limited to, but currently draws from theory in Cultural Anthropology, Human Geography, Linguistics, and Political Science. This working group functions with collegial and intensive mutual engagement, rather than the typical unidirectional "talks" that often occur in academia.

Religious Studies Roundtable

The Religious Studies Roundtable is a graduate student group created to provide a forum for interdisciplinary study and informal discussion of a broad range of religion-related topics (according to the interest of participants) for OSU graduate students and faculty.  Grounded in an understanding of religion as embedded in culture, we are intent on fostering mutual understanding and respect among faith traditions, as well as providing collegial advice, support, and intellectual stimulation.  We also sometimes collaborate on lectures and activities with the OSU Center for the Study of Religion.  We meet monthly at the Institute for Collaborative Research and Public Humanities (George Wells Knight House), 104 E. 15th Avenue.  For additional information, contact Kate Dean-Haidet (kdhaidet@earthlink.net) or Rita Trimble (trimble.38@osu.edu).
