Description
The Office of International Students and Scholars contributes to international activities of Yale University by helping to create a welcoming and supportive environment for Yale’s international students and scholars, and their accompanying dependents. Through its variety of social, cultural and educational programs, OISS promotes the international and multicultural dimension of the University, as well as the contributions to campus life by the many nationalities represented. OISS is responsible for keeping the University community, including international students and scholars, as well as the schools, department and units that admit, hire and host them, informed of their individual and institutional requirements with respect to the relevant immigration regulations and laws.

Reporting to the Director, provide professional advising resource services on a broad range of employment-based immigration related areas. Implement and administer departmental and University policies associated with employment-based immigration areas to ensure compliance with U.S. DHS, DOL and DOS regulations. Serve as an expert resource to staff and faculty on employment-based immigration matters. Responsible for the development, coordination and delivery of immigration advising and other support services for the University’s non-immigrant faculty and staff community. As part of OISS management team, participate in long-term strategic planning initiatives and major policy decisions concerning programming strategies, internal operations, external relations and personnel matters.

Requirements
1. Bachelor’s Degree and six years (three in a supervisory role) of experience with international students and scholars, preferably in a higher education setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Demonstrated administrative and managerial experience. 3. Extensive knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations, preferably via experience with employment-based permanent resident and H-1B applications. 4. Thorough understanding of the cultural, social and personal transitions faced when crossing cultures. 5. Preferred: Competency in a language other than English and/or an overseas experience; experience in business process improvements, technology skills and U.S. tax regulations affecting international students and scholars; Master's Degree; experience in developing programs to support the international community.
