RUTGERS UNIVERSITY, the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, seeks to fill a one-year full-time position, with possible yearly renewal in subsequent years, for an Instructor specializing in Modern Iranian History and Culture. Candidates must have a PhD in hand before the start date of September 1, 2009, and show evidence of excellence in teaching at undergraduate level, including upper-level seminars and undergraduate advising. The standard teaching load for an instructor is 3-3. Responsibilities may also include grant proposal writing, publicity, fundraising, and event organization. The Center for Middle Eastern Studies oversees an interdisciplinary undergraduate major in Middle Eastern Studies and maintains an extensive outreach program. Lecturer in Modern Standard Arabic
The University of Iowa Department of French and Italian invites applications for a non-tenure-track lecturer position in Modern Standard Arabic for the academic year 2009-10, renewable for a total of three years (2009-12) and renewable thereafter in three year increments pending collegiate approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching. PhD or equivalent in a related field preferred. Ability to coordinate a language program and to teach all levels of Modern Standard Arabic, from beginning to advanced, required. Ability and experience teaching courses on Middle Eastern culture in English and integrating computer and other audiovisual technologies in teaching are desirable.
